The conference was the occasion to showcase the diversity of the user community within the European Grid Infrastructure through daily plenaries, oral presentations, poster sessions and co-located workshops. The event aimed to help all members of the EGI community, from end-users to application developers, operations staff and technology providers, to share their knowledge and build collaborations. The programme also included numerous networking and social events and opportunities to ‘meet the experts’.
Technical Forum EGI 2010
The “EGI Technical Forum” was held in central Amsterdam at Beurs van Berlage between 14-17th September 2010 in partnership with the BiG Grid (Dutch NGI) project.
Operations Portal
The EGI Operations Portal is developed and hosted by the IN2P3 Computing Centre since November 2004. This application is used by different actors of EGI, namely regional operators and managers, resource center administrators, virtual community managers and any end users linked to this infrastructure.
The Operations Portal is based on the ‘actor’s view’ principle where each actor of the community has access to information, from an operational point of view, accordingly to his role in the project such as grid operators, who daily monitor the status of resources and grid services, researchers, who make use of the grid for their work, or VO/site/NGI managers.
The Operations Portal provides information to these various actors along with related facilities, such as the Virtual Organization administration tool, communication tools (the broadcast and downtime system) and dashboards (Operations dashboard, security dashboard, VO operations Dashboard) used in the daily operations.
EGI.eu creation
EGI.eu was created on 8 February 2010 to coordinate and maintain a sustainable pan-European infrastructure to support European research communities and their international collaborators. Its work builds on previous EU-funded projects which nurtured this goal, from the initial concept of a scalable, federated, distributed computing system. France Grilles as the French National Grid Intiative takes part in EGI.eu.
